the EINSTELLUNGSRAUM actually is in the shape of a bed, additionally accentuated by the frame.  In addition there is a pile of tires which is more typical for racecourses than for a  emergency lane. These interrelations create further possibilities for docking to establish corelations with this field of associations. So do often race drivers already set themselves in a lying position in the car that matches the position in a sick bed or in the coffin. And the 'breakdown' with a defect containes the image of a leisurely morning when one just sleeps in longer.

Braking also in botanics?

The exhibitions so far have put light on various aspects of braking  I would like to briefly concentrate these here at the occasion of halftime of the project:
-
Ahemt Dilek presented a canvas with imprints of shoes soles visualizing also the political implications of breaking,
-    Kimberly Horton and her guest Sabine Hšpfner presented to us
braking possibilities through the camera lens.
Almut Grypstra built up machines in the EINSTELLUNGSRAUM which run differently than those of the governing religion of efficiency.
- and BŠrbel Bahlke-Meisel lookes into the etymological roots of the word and applied her metaphorical language  to potentiate  the restraint of mouth and speech tools with a shape
I have not forgotten Bertram Wei§haar.  But mention him outside the order because as
researcher for walks he started off from  the physical aspects of deceleration which bear a closeness to the works of Falke and Bahnmueller - assembled in the rear area and the basement of the EINSTELLUNGSRAUM. Weisshaar docu- mented and collected plants hat often from far away have  come  to the garden plots he explored. It is surprising that plants as stationary beings do not vary from human beings in their travel customs. The difference is that they themselves or their seeds utilize the existing resources and travel hitchhiking. If they are not carried by air or water or stick to animals as a way of transport the
human infrastructure is serving them. Only when they have grown roots they are somewhat stationary unless they are dug out and shipped as root-bagged or in pots.
When the dispersion of plants, accelerated by humans, changes habitats  one eventually starts brooding over breaking in the field of botanics. In "Bohnen pulen" (to shell beans), a video by Ulli Falke, this incident of braking has already taken place because here the seeds are prepared only virtually. The look at the shelling of dried pods shows how seeds for our own runner beans for the comming year are harvested  and at the same time opens one's eyes for the aesthetic qualities of the slowness within a biological circle.

The physique of braking

If not in the gravel bed then for the occasion of the opening of the exhibition all guests slowed down their steps so much that a speed has been achieved when one feels relaxed: After all we are in a state of naught speed when we have come to standing position. Then we perceive our weight with the balls of the feet which are sensitive and perceive unevenness even through the shoe soles. Maybe we remember how it felt running over soft cushions when we were children or used an adult's bed as trampolin. The sinking in and ascending gave a heightened foot- and body feeling. But nowadays who walks over a freshly harrowed, a gras or a stubble field. Feet are a highly comples but often under-challenged organ of touch, movement and balance. The video shot by Carola BahnmŸller shows the slow striding in a walk-meditation on grass and makes aware again the special capabilities of feet and the moments of experience and happiness that go with it.

The adjustment of braking and accelerating creates rhythm and balance.
When on the carseat in the basement of EINSTELLUNGSRAUM one has taken seat in front of one of the two screens and watches
