this feet walking on grass one
notices how in walking
braking and acceleration collude so that both moments cancel themselves
out. This permanent
adjustment between acceleration and braking possibly is the secret of
balance; because only then are we able to walk slowly when we are not
excited, when like rope walkers we surrender completely to the weight
of the body and the unrolling of the balls of the feet. A sequence of 9
drawings at the end; they opened my soul on Monday when I first saw
them. Parallel lines with pencils of different softness are drawn here
horizontally from picture edge to picture edge. By pressing more or
less the width of the lines increases or decreases again. They also
remind of stylized waves of lets say the Asian ink painting. Ulli

by means of drawing
pen how the weight perception of the arm and the hand changes with
breathing. Like as seismograph the hand runs over the sheet and with
the changing capacity in lung and diaphragm the artist varies the
pressure going to the lead. Thus the lines become alternately trimmer
and wider, skinnier and fatter. From the overview a pattern results
that is resembles a water surface with waves. Those works are witness
of a drawing meditation delivering results of different denseness and
intensity. But because continuous breathing in and out leads to
hyper- ventilation here also brake intervals are necessary, because the
quality of the drawings last but not least depends on the pauses
of
breathing that maintain the line. |
