| STROLLOLOGY*
15.03.08 A report It was neither a stroll
with chatting nor a walk to be seen. STROLLOLOGY**, the science of
going for a walk which the Leipzig artist Bertram Weisshaar studied
with Lucius Burckhardt at the Gesamthochschule (a university for
certain subjects) Kassel in the 80ies and now starting with the winter
semester 2006 teaches himself in Leipzig at the university
demands a certain "pre-condi-
tion" for knowledge gain to happen. This "pre-condition" was
what it was about when the former
landscape planer Weisshaar lead the recipients of his going-for-a-walk
performance on Saturday the 15th of March 2008 from 3.15 to 5 p.m.
meandering between the large "wind-canal" Wandsbeker Chaussee and the
"calm channel" of the Auenstieg (name of street) through Eilbek to the
wide parking lot on top of Karstadt (name of department store) at
Wandsbeker Marktplatz.

Miraculously rain and
storm of previous days paused so that the 19 participants to start with
could get on their way without umbrella and with dry feet. They had
arrived from Altona and the Hafencity but also from Eilbek.
The "pre-condition" which was supposed to occur, that is the preparedness to assimilate what was seen, requires not to chat continuously but to calmly open to the situation with all senses. |
An
uninterested pleasantness when looking on the surroundings lets
evolve a view on something like landscape Weisshaar said
and
meant the view which sweeps over larger interrelations in opposition to
the focussing view of opposition to the focussing view of bargain
hunters or assessing specialists for urbane building-scapes for
example. So the band of the interested STROLLOERS (the walkers) went smoothly through acoustic spaces. From the noise-flooded Wandsbeker Chaussee through the Auenstieg where it became pleasantly quieter, pass the bird twitter of the stream Eilbek back again to the Chaussee which modified and expanded the car noise so-to-say to a lively city concert in the direction of the market place by the calling-out by children, parents and other pedestrians. To get to the parking deck of the deparment store one traverses the artificial streets of the music-resounding inner space where nature distributes its fragrance even as tanned leather jacket in the display rows. Arriving at the upper level between turrets and roofs the view extends to a distance searching landscape-view. About 5 times the group paused in between to adjust or to expand the perception with each other. Once a close to public policeman on patrol joined the group and told them about his professional walk that has the purpose of showing presence. Completely filling an elevator in the store an interest-guided group feeling between the participants eventually evolved. Having coffee, tea and biscuits in EINSTELLUNGSRAUM eventually gave the opportunity to express each ones all-over perceptions in a relaxed atmosphere. Elke Suhr |
