The material has emancipated itself from its inferior meaning and has come to the forfront itself.
The term  STOFFWECHSEL (metabolism) as expression for the chemical exchange processes taking part in the organism appears in this form only at the changeover to the 19th century, bevor that terms like ferment and fermentation were used since the 17th century and that first in the area of physiology and medicine als terms for the process of digestion. 4
 
Through the different flexible, changeable, mobile matters new conditins have evolved in art. Now it actually is about processes, exchange, change, transformation, conversion, movement, transfer. Metabolism can be done in actions, in thinking, in formal, three-dimensional, time-related changes.
Uwe Ochsler  has given us a clear example with this interactive processual work for the metabolism in art, which now will be concentrated by the following contributions form different areas and the discussion afterwards.
