transfers a stretch of
video from the screen onto a full length
of a roll of slidefilm. By rewinding of the unexposed film when the
shutter was open the camera drive became a simultaneous picture of the
driven around space. In this way a whole video ended up on a roll of
film by this creating a panorama of the by underground driven-through
city-scape.
Here the specialists of pictures, hence the stills in both senses, never stopped pushing. They turned to the digital and physical film material - the latter by now almost completely liberated of its commercial use - to explore its possibilities. |
Another kind of delaying
do the long exposures by Horton present. Here it became a hurdle that
also the film material was involved with the acceleration; because in
regards of sensitivity of films it is not only spoken of speed but the
sensitivity has been improved so drastically that long time exposures
are almost not possible any longer. For the photographs of city-scapes
and park areas Hotrton had to use black filters so that the subtle
blurriness that happens only at a certain exposure time become
visible. Those filters can be perceived as light brake. Certainly a
filter cannot slow down the light speed but the light is physically
ambivalent. It can be defined as wave and as particle. And on the level
of particle theory of light one can definitly speak of a slowing down:
because concretely filter stop light particles and slow down the
amount of light that reaches the film through the lens.
