like a mirror or like with Alice points to the other world behind the mirror and at the same time functions as a picture carrier like a monitor .

The last work bears the title das Zuckerhaus (the sugar house) ("the sugarhouse", video film, color, 4 min. with sound).
A red liquid is dripping hearable and slowly on a white area. The intensity of the color rain and the sound increases, the feeling of threat evolves. The more dense the color materializes on the area the clearer visible a white house becomes. the harmles mood tips over into threat, the bloodred color is like a blood rain and the sugarhouse elapses in the same moment it becomes visible and dissolves in the surge of the floods.
NAHO KAWABE uses the technic-oriented medium video in a painterly context  and opens a window to another world. She does not aim the camera to the so-called pulsating life and does not supply fast picture rows. She enacts artificial worlds and confronts this her inner calm picture world with our noisy, fast, shrill media pictures. She produces pictures that take their time and which model, research, test out and make visible time. She generates harmonic moments with astonishing asthetical effects, makes emotions visible and sensible. She produces by magic calm different realities and existential and philosophical moments to the surface.
She paints with the camera border experiences, border crossovers, makes processes, transformations and phenomenons of an inner world of the slowed down pictures visible and sensible which stand in analogy and in contrast to the situation of the motor with its four rythms in which a fast, loud and constant rythm leads to the process of metabolism and exchange of energy.
Just the third rythm of the motor, the ignition, the explosion, the moment of catastrophy is being put into the spotlight. In the motor it is controlled, restricted, ruled and canalized. In the works of the artist there is a pause in the moment of the catastrophy and a state of undecision.
The change of time into threedimensionality becomes visible in the moment of the catastrophy by the intensification of the moment and incompatability.

NAHO KAWABE sensibly uses traditonal asian cultural elements in her audiovisual works, as well as pictural magic and symbolic to bring to the surface hiddes poetical worlds.
I wish much enjoyment with this exhibition.
